Ylämaa Labradorite
Spectrolite is the name given to a dark Labradorite extracted in the Ylämaa region of southeastern Finland. It belongs to the plagioclase feldspar group and is distinguished by the breadth of its colors, which can cover almost the entire visible spectrum.
The name therefore conveys a provenance. A Labradorite with multiple flashes from another country remains Labradorite. This detail reinforces Spectrolite’s value: its material, palette, and history belong to the same region.
A Discovery in the Early 1940s
The Ylämaa deposit was uncovered during the construction of the Salpa defensive line in the early 1940s. The Ylämaa Gemstone Museum directly links the discovery of Spectrolite to this work.
After the war, extraction and cutting gave rise to a local industry. The stone became a Finnish mineral emblem, used in decorative objects and carved works.
A defensive line reveals a stone of light. This historical encounter nourishes its symbolism: protection does not merely close off a passage. It also preserves a space where a hidden resource can appear.
Light Revealed by the Angle

The color does not appear from every position. The stone or light source must be moved. In ritual, this phenomenon becomes a rule: a fact remains stable, but its interpretation changes when the point of observation is altered.

In The Magic and Science of Jewels and Stones, published in 1922, Isidore Kozminsky places Labradorite under Aquarius. Spectrolite, later described as Finnish Labradorite, inherits this reference.
Saturn rules Aquarius in classical astrology. It brings boundaries, structure, and independence. Air corresponds to vision, the circulation of ideas, and the distance that makes it possible to compare several perspectives.
Saturday is suitable for protection and consolidating a decision. Wednesday supports examination, strategy, and changing perspective. A black cloth, three sheets of paper, and a white candle placed at a distance accompany the stone.
Protection, vision, and strategy
Place the Spectrolite near a door, a divination set, or a consultation notebook. Its dark surface represents the boundary; its flashes, the ability to receive an image without losing oneself in it.
For a decision, write down what is certain, what depends on the perspective adopted, and what is still missing. Turn the stone between each reading. The gesture recalls that changing perspective does not erase the facts.
In protection work, name what the boundary must preserve: rest, autonomy, concentration, or confidentiality. The stone better preserves a clearly stated value than a defense directed against a vague threat.
The Three Angles Rite
On a Wednesday or Saturday, place three sheets of paper around the Spectrolite. Write “what I see” on the first, “what the other person sees” on the second, and “what the facts allow us to establish” on the third.
Turn the stone beneath a fixed light before filling out each sheet. Then place the third one in the center and say: “May each angle reveal its part, may the fact keep its place, and may the decision find its light.” Finish with an action based on what can be verified.
