Wirth Tarots
Discover the Oswald Wirth Tarots, associated with French occultism in the late 19th century. Wirth reworked the tarot’s 22 major arcana, giving them a graphic and symbolic vocabulary influenced by the hermetic movements of his time.
This family is suitable for readers who wish to study the major arcana from a historical and occultist perspective. Compare the edition, number of cards, format, and booklet before choosing. To compare this tradition with its other major families, see the Tarot de Marseille, the Rider-Waite-Smith, and the Thoth Tarot.

Choose an Oswald Wirth Tarot: 22 Major Arcana and French occultism.
Oswald Wirth Tarots continue the work of the French occultist at the end of the 19th century. His deck emphasizes the 22 Major Arcana and their symbolic interpretation, with iconography reworked from the tradition of the Tarot de Marseille.
Before buying, check the number of cards, the edition, and the booklet. A 22-card tarot deck cannot be used directly with a method that requires the 56 Minor Arcana.

A tarot deck centered on the major arcana
Wirth's work is particularly associated with the 22 major arcana. If you wish to practice a method based on all 78 cards, check whether your edition includes the minor arcana or whether you need to choose another deck.
This focus, however, allows for a very detailed study of each major figure.
Marseille as a point of comparison
Wirth retains the traditional major figures of the Marseille deck while modifying details and emphasizing certain occult symbols. Comparing the two decks helps distinguish heritage from reinterpretation.
The Marseille Tarot collection provides this point of reference.
Occult symbols and the study of the 19th century
Wirth's interpretation is connected to the French occult circles of his time. The details added to the cards make more sense when read alongside a work devoted to the author or the history of tarot.
Avoid directly applying a Rider-Waite-Smith method to the images without taking this context into account.
Choose the edition for study
Compare the print quality, card size, colors, and booklet. To observe the details, a readable edition is better than a format that is too small and chosen solely for its price.
If you are a beginner, start with short spreads focused on the Major Arcana.
