Arthur Edward Waite
Arthur Edward Waite was born in 1857 in Brooklyn, United States, and grew up in England, where he developed a significant body of work in the field of Western esotericism, combining scholarship, translation, and initiatory practice. Early on attracted to ancient texts, he devoted himself to the study of alchemy, Christian Kabbalah, and European mystical traditions, with a desire to restore these corpora in their symbolic depth rather than reduce them to purely operative uses. At the end of the 19th century, he joined the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, within which he evolved until founding his own branch, oriented towards a more contemplative and inner approach. Waite published numerous works, including The Book of Ceremonial Magic and The Key to the Tarot, where he analyzes grimoires and symbolic systems seeking to distinguish what he considered authentic from what he judged degraded or poorly transmitted. He is best known for having designed, with illustrator Pamela Colman Smith, the Rider-Waite tarot published in 1909, which introduced illustrated scenes on the minor arcana and permanently transformed tarot practice by facilitating its interpretation. His work is part of a scholarly approach, marked by a demand for reading and transmitting esoteric traditions in their symbolic and initiatory dimension.

Why choose a book by author?
Esotericism is not limited to an accumulation of practices and beliefs. It is a journey, a quest for knowledge rooted in study and transmission. Great esoteric authors have dedicated their lives to uncovering the mysteries of the invisible world and sharing their discoveries through powerful and inspiring writings. Diving into the complete works of an author allows one to grasp the evolution of their thought and the depth of their approach.
Some have devoted their research to the secrets of magic and symbols, like Eliphas Lévi or Papus. Others have explored Hermetic initiation, such as Franz Bardon. Aleister Crowley revolutionized ritual magic and Kabbalah with a bold approach, while Doreen Valiente and Scott Cunningham restored the prestige of natural magic and pagan traditions.
