Green Mica Colored by Chromium
Fuchsite is a variety of Muscovite in which Chromium replaces some of the Aluminum. This substitution produces a pale green, apple green, or emerald green color. Like other Micas, it separates into thin sheets with a pearly luster.
Mindat classifies it as a chromium-bearing variety of Muscovite. The Handbook of Mineralogy describes Muscovite's layered structure and its low hardness, close to 2 to 2.5.
A Variety Named in the 19th Century
Fuchsite was described in 1842 and named after the German chemist and mineralogist Johann Nepomuk von Fuchs. Its history therefore begins with modern mineralogical classification.
The GIA notes that Fuchsite is chromium-bearing Muscovite and shows how analysis distinguishes it from similar-looking green materials. Its color alone is not enough to identify a stone.
The Green Book of Venus and Mercury
Fuchsite has no ancient lineage. Its current correspondences come from two material signs: the green of Chromium and the sheets of Mica. The former calls Venus to mind; the latter evokes the book, the ledger, and the separation of pages under Mercury.
This interpretation avoids reducing the stone to a vague promise of abundance. It gives it a more precise domain: tracking what comes in and goes out, learning a method, writing an agreement, and distinguishing generous help from limitless self-sacrifice.
One page cannot hold the whole book. Fuchsite reminds us that every resource, task, and relationship has its place. Generosity becomes sustainable when it knows which page to write its boundary on.
