Lammas (also called Lughnasadh) is one of the eight sabbats celebrated by followers of Wicca and other modern pagan traditions. History of the Lammas or Lughnasadh Sabbat
Lammas / Lughnasadh has its roots in ancient Celtic and Anglo-Saxon traditions. Lughnasadh, named after the Celtic god Lugh, was a festival in honor of his foster mother, Tailtiu, who, according to legend, cleared the plains of Ireland for farming. Lugh established this festival to commemorate her sacrifice. In Christian traditions, Lammas also marked the time when the first fruits of the harvest were brought to the church to be blessed.
Meaning of the Lammas or Lughnasadh Symbol
