Saint Monica, born around 331 in Thagaste (now in Algeria), is the mother of Saint Augustine. She is best known for her unwavering faith and fervent prayers for her son's conversion. Married to a pagan named Patricius, Monica lived a life of devotion despite family difficulties. She is the very example of perseverance and maternal love in the Christian faith. After many years of prayer, she witnessed Augustine's conversion, one of the greatest theologians of the Church. Monica died in 387 in Ostia, Italy, shortly after her son's conversion. She is venerated as the patron saint of mothers and Christian wives.
