Maman Brigitte, also called Grand Brigitte or Madame Brigitte, is the powerful loa of Death and guardian of cemeteries. Wife of Baron Samedi, she shares with him a crude and direct language. She is known for protecting graves, especially those marked with a cross, which symbolizes her protective power over the deceased.
Her followers offer her spiced rum and perfume in exchange for her protection and benevolent intervention, especially in matters related to death and cemeteries. She is also known to free women from curses and evil charms. Some initiates invoke her for healing, notably to cure ulcers.
When she drinks her spiced rum, her powerful breath, associated with the initiate, can disturb bewitched spirits. Her fierce and protective nature makes her a formidable but benevolent figure for those who worship her properly
