Mary who Unties Knots is a Marian devotion centered on a representation of the Virgin Mary known for her particular intercession in resolving complex problems and difficulties that seem unsolvable, symbolized by knots. The image comes from a Baroque painting created in 1700 by Johann Georg Melchior Schmidtner, which is currently located in the St. Peter am Perlach church in Augsburg, Germany.
In this depiction, Mary is shown carefully and attentively untying the knots of a long ribbon, which is held by angels. The scene is rich in symbolism: the knots in the ribbon represent sins, mistakes, and conflicts that entangle human life.
