Papus, the pseudonym of Gérard Encausse (1865-1916), is a major figure in 19th-century French occultism. Trained as a physician, he was also a writer, lecturer, and esotericist. Passionate about spirituality, he became one of the main promoters of Hermeticism, Theosophy, and Kabbalah in France.
A prolific author, Papus wrote numerous works, including "Methodical Treatise on Practical Magic" and "The Science of the Magi", which remain key references in esotericism. He is also the founder of the Martinist Order, an initiatory organization dedicated to transmitting the mystical teachings of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin.
Playing a key role in the revival of occult traditions in Europe, he left his mark on his era through his scholarship and commitment to making spirituality accessible to all.
