Dane Rudhyar, born Daniel Léon Chennevière on March 23, 1895, in Paris and died on September 13, 1985, in San Francisco, is a major figure in modern astrology, recognized as the founder of humanistic astrology.
From a young age, he faced health problems that deeply influenced his path. He studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, where he was influenced by the thoughts of Nietzsche and Bergson, and developed a passion for music, composing from the age of 17. In 1916, he emigrated to the United States, where he adopted the name Dane Rudhyar, inspired by the Vedic god Rudra, a symbol of transformation and regeneration.
Rudhyar stood out for an innovative approach to astrology, which he integrated with currents of humanistic psychology and Eastern philosophies. He conceived astrology as a tool for personal development, emphasizing the cycles of individual transformation rather than fatalistic predictions.
Throughout his life, Rudhyar published around forty works, covering various themes such as the Sabian symbols, depth psychology, and spirituality.
