General description of Copal

Copal is an aromatic resin derived from several tree species in the Burseraceae family, notably trees of the Protium, Bursera, and Agathis genera. Native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, as well as the Pacific islands, the Copal appears as translucent amber-colored chunks, often with a slightly sticky texture.
