In Rites and Practices in Honor of the Goddess Hecate, the author brings together academic research from a wide range of sources, highlighting the plural and universal nature of this extraordinary goddess. She offers a general overview of Hecate's place in Greek mythology, while emphasizing the most significant places where her worship has been attested, the various physical forms in which she appears, the symbols by which she is most commonly recognized, and how she was historically worshipped.

This book is a comprehensive introduction to her many myths and legends, viewed through the divine origin attributed to her in Hesiod's Theogony (800–700 BCE), as well as an exploration of her association with other goddesses in archaeology, literature, and iconography. However, Rites and Practices in Honor of the Goddess Hecate presents only a small portion of the historical knowledge available to us about the goddess Hecate.

Thus, you can read it on its own if you are interested in the history and myths associated with this goddess, but it is primarily intended to provide the foundation and context for various practices. The following volumes will develop these foundations and include devotional rites, meditations, contemplations, and charms, giving readers the opportunity to deepen their personal understanding of and relationship with this goddess.

In Rites and Practices in Honor of the Goddess Hecate, the author gathers academic research from numerous sources to highlight the complex and universal nature of this fascinating goddess. She offers an overview of Hecate's place in Greek mythology, emphasizing the locations where her cult was most vigorously attested, the different forms in which she appears, the symbols associated with her, as well as the historical methods of her veneration.

This book is a comprehensive introduction to her multiple myths and legends, exploring the divine origin attributed to her in Hesiod's "Theogony" (800-700 BCE), and her association with other goddesses in archaeology, literature, and iconography. The author examines how Hecate has been represented in different cultures and periods, offering a rich and nuanced perspective on her role as the goddess of magic, crossroads, and spirits.

Although Rites and Practices in Honor of the Goddess Hecate presents a vast amount of historical knowledge, it serves only as an introduction to the goddess. The book can be read independently by those interested in the history and myths associated with Hecate, but it is primarily designed to provide a foundation and context for various spiritual practices. The following volumes will build on these foundations by including devotional rites, meditations, contemplations, and charms. Thus, the reader will have the opportunity to develop a personal understanding and an intimate relationship with Hecate.

The author also offers sections on symbols commonly associated with Hecate, such as keys, torches, and dogs, and on how these symbols have evolved and been interpreted through the ages. Additionally, she explores ancient rituals dedicated to Hecate, describing how these practices can be adapted and integrated into modern rituals.

Sorita d'Este is an author, researcher, and priestess devoted to the Mysteries, particularly those associated with the goddess Hekate. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Sorita began exploring esoteric teachings from childhood, following significant psychic experiences. She has studied and taught magic, mythology, and ancient spiritual traditions, contributing to the understanding and practice of these disciplines worldwide.

Sorita is the author of numerous books, including Hekate: Liminal Rites, Practical Elemental Magick, and The Cosmic Shekinah. In 2000, she co-founded the StarStone network with David Rankine, dedicated to the study of initiatory witchcraft, ceremonial magic, and the Mysteries of Hekate. In 2010, she wrote the Rite of Her Sacred Fires, a devotional ritual that has become a global annual celebration in honor of Hekate, translated into 30 languages.

Sorita lives in Glastonbury, where she continues to write and publish, often distracted by her son, her love of gardening, and various spiritual visitors. She is also the founder and keyholder of the Covenant of Hekate, a group dedicated to the study and veneration of this goddess.

Here, we don’t judge.

No matter where you come from, what you believe in, or what you’re looking for: you belong here. You can be a beginner, curious, a casual practitioner, or a daily witch. What matters is sincere intention.

We believe in all forms of magic.

High magic and its rigorous rituals deserve as much respect as spells passed down in the countryside. We read grimoires, respect rites, listen to old stories. Everything practiced with faith deserves serious and curious attention.

We welcome all traditions.

We don’t put one path above another. We talk hoodoo, kabbalah, Christian prayers, elemental magic, folk rituals, Celtic symbols. What matters is respect. Not the label.
