Buy Plant Magic (Taschen editions) from our esoteric shop
This volume from the Esotericism Library published by Taschen editions is dedicated to the history of the use of plants in mythology, religion, and magical practices. The book examines the place of the plant world in ancient cultures and shows how certain species have gained a special status over the centuries. It puts into perspective the stories, rituals, and knowledge associated with plants in different traditions.
A historical and cultural exploration
Through in-depth essays and excerpts from interviews, the book traces the enduring relationship between humanity and the plant kingdom. Plants appear alternately as remedies, symbols, ritual supports, or mediators between the visible and invisible. This approach helps to understand their role in religious systems and in magical practices passed down over time.
A richly illustrated work
More than 400 images accompany the text, offering a visual panorama ranging from ancient manuscripts to contemporary works. The editorial and iconographic quality typical of Taschen editions gives this volume a solid documentary dimension. Plant Magic is aimed at readers eager to deepen their understanding of the cultural and symbolic history of the plant world in esoteric traditions.
Jessica Hundley is an American author, editor, and creative director specializing in visual history, countercultures, and spiritual traditions. Co-founder of the magazine Luncheon, she regularly collaborates with Taschen editions, for which she has directed and co-written several works dedicated to esotericism, ritual practices, sacred plants, and alternative cultural movements. Her work is distinguished by a solid documentary approach, combining texts, archives, and iconography, with particular attention to the historical and cultural roots of the subjects addressed.
Here, we don’t judge.
No matter where you come from, what you believe in, or what you’re looking for: you belong here. You can be a beginner, curious, a casual practitioner, or a daily witch. What matters is sincere intention.
We believe in all forms of magic.
High magic and its rigorous rituals deserve as much respect as spells passed down in the countryside. We read grimoires, respect rites, listen to old stories. Everything practiced with faith deserves serious and curious attention.
We welcome all traditions.
We don’t put one path above another. We talk hoodoo, kabbalah, Christian prayers, elemental magic, folk rituals, Celtic symbols. What matters is respect. Not the label.
We work cleanly.
Each package is carefully prepared by us, here in France. Before shipping, it is purified so it arrives at your home cleansed and positively charged. We strive to use recyclable packaging and reduce our impact as much as possible.
We stay available.
Customer service is us. Not an AI, not a robot, not a call center. If you have a question, a doubt, a problem, you reach us—the same people who select the products, write the descriptions, and prepare the packages.
We stay human-sized.
We are a small passionate team with big ambitions, hands in the herbs, books, and boxes. And we want to keep it that way.
— You speak about it best.
