Demetrio Paparoni, born on January 25, 1954, in Syracuse, Italy, is an art critic, exhibition curator, writer, and Italian publisher. He taught the history of modern and contemporary art at the University of Catania. In 1983, he founded the contemporary art magazine Tema Celeste as well as the eponymous publishing house, which he directed until 2000. Paparoni is the author of several works, including The Devil: A Visual History and Art and Posthistory: Conversations on the End of Aesthetics, co-written with Arthur Danto. He has also published monographs on artists such as Chuck Close, Jonathan Lasker, Wang Guangyi, Natee Utarit, and Ronald Ventura. His essays appear in numerous exhibition catalogs dedicated to artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Edward Hopper, Zhang Huan, Alex Katz, David LaChapelle, Tony Oursler, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jenny Saville, and Andy Warhol. As a curator, he has organized many major exhibitions, thus contributing to the international dissemination of contemporary art.
