The story of Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc, born in 1412 into a deeply religious peasant family, began hearing divine voices at the age of 13. These voices, which she attributed to the archangel Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret, entrusted her with a mission: to free France from English occupation and lead the Dauphin Charles VII to the throne. On the battlefield, Joan of Arc was seen as a religious symbol, convinced that victory depended on the spiritual purity of her troops. She restored hope to the French armies and played a central role in the coronation of Charles VII in Reims in 1429, a crucial moment for the king’s legitimacy, considered the fulfillment of divine will. Joan saw this victory as confirmation of her spiritual mission, reinforcing the idea that France was under God's special protection.
Captured in 1430, Joan was tried for heresy by the English and burned at the stake in 1431. Her trial tested her faith, but she never renounced her visions. Her death was quickly seen as martyrdom, and she was rehabilitated in 1456, then canonized in 1920. Her spiritual journey, marked by her faithfulness to God and courage in the face of challenges, makes her an iconic and inspiring figure of faith and divine duty.
