Abbé Julio, the name under which Julien-Ernest Houssay wrote, was a French ecclesiastic born in 1844 in Cossé-le-Vivien and who died in 1912 in Geneva. Ordained a Catholic priest in 1867, he held several ministries before breaking with the Roman Church and joining the Neo-Gallican movement. Consecrated bishop of the Free Catholic Church of France in 1904, he published collections of prayers, blessings, exorcisms, and pentacles intended for spiritual protection and healing. His works, including Les Grands Secrets merveilleux* and *Le Livre secret des grands exorcismes et bénédictions, occupy a major place in popular French Christian magic.
