This keychain represents the Saint Benedict medal, one of the most well-known symbols of protection and faith. Since the Middle Ages, this medal has been considered a shield against harmful influences, temptations, curses, and spiritual dangers.
It features the image of the cross surrounded by Latin inscriptions that recall an exorcism prayer attributed to Saint Benedict. Notably, it includes the invocation “Crux Sacra Sit Mihi Lux” which means “may the holy cross be my light,” and “Non Draco Sit Mihi Dux” translated as “may the dragon not be my guide.”
The famous phrase “Vade Retro Satana” is also present, commanding evil to stay away and to drink its own poisons. At the top of the medal is the word “Pax,” peace, which is the Benedictine motto.
