Medusa is one of the Gorgons in Greek mythology, three sisters with frightening features, daughters of the sea deities Phorcys and Ceto. But unlike her immortal sisters, Stheno and Euryale, Medusa was mortal.
According to legend, she was once a woman of great beauty before being transformed into a creature with snakes for hair and a petrifying gaze by Athena, as punishment for being raped by Poseidon in a temple dedicated to the goddess. Her story is linked to the hero Perseus, who beheaded her with the help of Athena and Hermes. From her blood were born Pegasus, the winged horse, and Chrysaor, a giant armed with a golden sword.
Medusa is thus a figure of vengeance but also of resistance and protection against injustice.
This Medusa head is entirely crafted from Silver Obsidian, a less common variant of the famous protective stone. It will make a perfect artifact on your altar or in a place where you want to feel protected.
This small sculpture is sold individually and its appearance may vary slightly from one piece to another.
