Practical Magic Manual

Jules Boucher (1902-1957) left few works behind during his career as an esotericist. Yet, his name remains essential thanks to the success of his major work, La Symbolique Maçonnique, whose first edition in 1948 has been continuously reprinted.

Passionate about Freemasonry and secret societies, as evidenced by his articles published in the magazine Le Symbolisme, he also distinguished himself early on through his expertise in Alchemy. As early as 1935, he published a series of in-depth articles on the subject in M. Choisy’s magazines, Votre bonheur then Consolation. He was also one of Fulcanelli’s disciples, as notably attested by the dedication in this volume and his article “La Croix d’Hendaye” published in Consolation in 1936.

An active member of several study circles dedicated to “Magical Thought,” he combined documentary rigor with intellectual demand. His Manual of Practical Magic, signed J.B., has thus become a rare and sought-after work, counted among the essential references of the magical corpus.

Jules Boucher (1902-1957) left a mark on 20th-century French esotericism through his work and writings, although his publications remain few. His name remains inseparable from his major work, La Symbolique Maçonnique, published in 1948 and continuously reissued since, a sign of its importance and the influence it still holds today in Masonic and esoteric circles.

His interest in Freemasonry and secret societies is evident in his numerous contributions to the magazine Le Symbolisme, where he explores the initiatory and philosophical foundations of Western esoteric traditions. But beyond these works, Boucher also distinguished himself in the field of Alchemy. As early as 1935, he authored a series of in-depth articles in M. Choisy’s magazines, Votre bonheur then Consolation, where he presented complex concepts with a rigor that demonstrates his mastery of the subject. His career suggests a close connection with Fulcanelli, a legendary figure of modern alchemy, of whom he is said to have been a disciple. This link is supported by the dedication found in one of his works as well as by his article La Croix d’Hendaye, published in 1936 in Consolation.

Active within various esoteric study circles, Boucher was particularly interested in practices related to "Magical Thinking," which he explored with both a methodical and scholarly approach. His demand for documentation, combined with a constant concern for precision, gives his writings an authority recognized by researchers and practitioners in the field. His Manual of Practical Magic, signed under the abbreviation J.B., has become an essential reference work, sought after for the clarity and richness of its content.

Despite a shortened career, Jules Boucher left a lasting imprint on contemporary esoteric thought through works that continue to be studied and passed down within initiatory traditions.

Jules Boucher was a French writer, occultist, alchemist, and Freemason. He is especially known for his work La Symbolique maçonnique, first published in 1948, which has become an essential reference in the field of Freemasonry.

Initiated into Freemasonry in 1943, during the German Occupation, he joined the clandestine lodge "L'Arche d'Alliance" of the Grande Loge de France in Paris. Later, he was a member of several lodges within this obedience.

A disciple of the alchemist Fulcanelli, Jules Boucher also founded the Rectified Martinist Order in 1948, thus contributing to the spread of esoteric teachings in France.

In 1951, he suffered a severe heart attack that forced him to withdraw from public life during the last four years of his life. He is buried in the Ivry cemetery in Paris.

Here, we don’t judge.

No matter where you come from, what you believe in, or what you’re looking for: you belong here. You can be a beginner, curious, a casual practitioner, or a daily witch. What matters is sincere intention.

We believe in all forms of magic.

High magic and its rigorous rituals deserve as much respect as spells passed down in the countryside. We read grimoires, respect rites, listen to old stories. Everything practiced with faith deserves serious and curious attention.

We welcome all traditions.

We don’t put one path above another. We talk hoodoo, kabbalah, Christian prayers, elemental magic, folk rituals, Celtic symbols. What matters is respect. Not the label.

We work cleanly.

Each package is carefully prepared by us, here in France. Before shipping, it is purified so it arrives at your home cleansed and positively charged. We strive to use recyclable packaging and reduce our impact as much as possible.
