Aeternum
Celandine / Fumitory
The Pied-de-Céline (Fumaria Officinalis), also known as Fumitory or Elf Smoke, is a plant used since Antiquity by the Germans and Celts. It was burned as incense for its ability to open portals to other realms and facilitate communication with the spirits of the deceased. Witches and wizards used it to try to become invisible, although this power remains legendary and difficult to master.
In the Middle Ages, Pied-de-Céline was smoked to drive away evil spirits and purify spaces from any malevolent influence. By creating a protective barrier and cleansing the environment, this plant helped maintain a sacred and secure space. Magic practitioners also used it for its protective and healing qualities, incorporating Fumitory into rituals and charms to ward off negative energies and promote a sense of peace and serenity.
Other names: Earth Smoke, Earth Gall, Jaundice Herb, Widow's Herb, Earth Flower, Blood Pisser.

Plant of Portals and Spiritual Vision
Pied-de-Céline, Fumaria Officinalis, also called Fumitory or Elf Smoke, plays a central role in the magical practices of ancient Europe. Used by the Celts and Germanic peoples, it served to open the boundaries between worlds. Its smoke, known for its lightness and ability to alter perception, facilitated communication with the spirits of the dead and supported divination practices. Ancient texts mention its use in attempts to become invisible, a symbolic use aimed at avoiding unwanted gazes and influences in complex rituals of transformation or concealment.
Tool for Purification and Energetic Defense
Over the centuries, Pied-de-Céline has become a staple in magical purification practices. Its clear, rising smoke acts as a barrier against malevolent spirits and harmful energies. Used alone as incense or in blends, it cleanses the atmosphere, drives away disruptive entities, and sanctifies ritual spaces. Medieval witches used it during vigils and ceremonies to ensure spiritual safety, especially during nighttime rituals or in places charged with history or memory.
Healing, Clarity, and Emotional Balance
Beyond its defensive role, Fumitory supports inner healing practices. Its use in ritual baths aids the purification of the subtle body, releases mental tensions, and promotes a state of deep peace. Non-ingested infusions, used as lotions or sprays, help soothe emotional conflicts and bring inner stability. Incorporated into a charm or sachet, it strengthens peace of mind and encourages a return to balance when emotions become overwhelming or disturbed.
