Saint Expedit is one of the most frequently invoked figures. And for good reason: he is invoked not only by those seeking quick solutions, but also by followers of the esoteric arts for his power to unblock even the most desperate situations. But who is he? A portrait.

1. Who is Saint Expedit?

According to some accounts, Saint Expedit was a Roman centurion, commander of the Fulminata legion, stationed in Armenia at the beginning of the 4th century. His name, "Expedit", means "fast" or "expeditious", an attribute that plays a role that will endure in his esoteric reputation.

One day, while he was still a pagan, Saint Expedit is said to have received a divine vision urging him to convert to Christianity. However, a raven, symbolizing procrastination, is said to have appeared, cawing "Cras, cras, cras" (tomorrow in Latin) to dissuade him from changing his faith. Determined, Saint Expedit is said to have crushed the raven while proclaiming "Hodie" (today), thereby affirming his immediate decision to convert.

Saint Expedit's conversion to Christianity marked the beginning of his spiritual journey and his entry into the pantheon of martyrs. As a Roman soldier, his conversion was not only a personal declaration of faith but also an act of defiance against the Roman Empire, which was then staunchly pagan. Refusing to renounce his new faith, Saint Expedit was arrested and subjected to cruel torture before being beheaded. He steadfastly refused to deny Christ, even under threat of death.

2. How is Saint Expedit depicted?

Saint Expedit is often depicted as a young man, generally dressed in the uniform of a Roman centurion, reflecting his supposed origins as a soldier of the Roman Empire. He wears a short tunic, a red cloak (or chlamys) draped over his shoulders, and sandals laced up to the knees, typical of Roman soldiers of the time.

Saint Expedit

One of Saint Expedit's most distinctive symbols is the cross he holds in one hand, bearing the inscription Hodie. This cross is often held high, signifying the urgency and necessity of immediate action.

Under his feet, Saint Expedit crushes a black raven. This symbol represents procrastination and indecision, which Saint Expedit overcomes through his determination and urgency to act.

In some representations, Saint Expedit also holds a palm, symbolizing his martyrdom and spiritual triumph. The palm is often associated with Christian martyrs, signifying their victory over death and entry into eternal glory.

3. What are the powers of Saint Expedit?

Saint Expedit is revered for his many attributed powers, which make him particularly valuable to the faithful in religious and esoteric matters. He is especially known for his ability to provide quick solutions to urgent problems, unlocking complex situations and finding solutions where other means fail. Saint Expedit is also invoked for protection against imminent dangers and perilous situations, offering prompt help in the face of physical, emotional, or spiritual threats. As the patron saint of desperate causes, he is called upon by those who find themselves in seemingly hopeless situations, seeking a miracle or divine intervention.

In esoteric circles, he is also credited with the power to speed up administrative, legal, and other procedures often held up by bureaucracy. In addition, students and professionals invoke Saint Expedit to achieve good academic results or professional promotions, regarding him as a powerful ally in ensuring that their efforts are quickly rewarded.
