Want to discover a secret Paris filled with symbols and strange stories? This tour is for you. We are taking you on a day-long walking tour through the Marais and its surroundings, looking for traces left by alchemists, hermeticists, and occult enthusiasts. Get ready to look up, observe the stones, shiver a little... and above all, see Paris differently.

Recommended departure: 9:30 a.m.
Have a good breakfast, put on comfortable shoes, and leave postcard Paris behind you. What awaits you today is a veiled, somewhat forgotten Paris that will whisper secrets to you around every street corner.

1. Nicolas Flamel's House

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

51 rue de Montmorency, 3rd arrondissement
Free

We are starting strong. At first glance, this stone house does not seem different from the other historic buildings in the Marais. And yet, you are standing before the oldest house in Paris still standing, built in 1407. Three stories high, it stands out for its rough-looking dressed-stone façade, pierced by narrow windows, and above all, for its inscriptions engraved in Old French on the door lintel. They contain a prayer dedicated to God, but some also see an alchemical coded message in them. No wonder: it was home to the famous alchemist Nicolas Flamel.
The house is now occupied by a restaurant, but simply looking at it gives you the impression of coming into contact with a forgotten part of Parisian magic.

2. The Tour Saint-Jacques

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

Square de la Tour Saint-Jacques, 4th arrondissement

Duration: 45 minutes – Admission: €12
Information & tours

It stands alone in the middle of a square, as if it had emerged from a Gothic dream. This 52-meter tower was once the bell tower of the Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, destroyed during the Revolution. But it is more than a religious relic: it contains elements linked to sacred geometry and alchemy. Look at the gargoyles, the carved reliefs... they are more than mere decoration. Once a landmark for pilgrims to Compostela, it later became a landmark for alchemists and master builders. And if you book your place in time, you can climb the spiral staircase to the top for a stunning panoramic view over Paris. The kind of ascent that makes you feel dizzy and gives you as much inner clarity.

3. L’Inconnu Bookshop

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

117 rue de la Verrerie, 4th arrondissement

Free (unless you make a few purchases...)

You enter here as if entering a temple. The shelves groan under the weight of grimoires, tarot decks, pendulums, vials, and ritual candles. The smell of old paper mingles with that of incense. If you like books that speak to your gut and intuition, you are in the right place. Sometimes, a book leaps into your hands as if it had been waiting for you. Don’t hesitate to chat with the booksellers; they are passionate, discreet, and always ready to offer a tip or point you toward a little-known reference.

4. Lunch break: recharge body and mind

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

Le Potager du Marais

24 rue Rambuteau – Approximately €18 per person

After this immersion in Parisian esotericism, it is time for a well-deserved break surrounded by greenery. Le Potager du Marais is a small, unpretentious restaurant full of charm. Everything here is organic, vegetarian, and prepared with care. Their famous vegan onion soup is a blessing. The dishes are simple but comforting, and the warm atmosphere lets you take stock of the morning’s discoveries. Take your time, savor the food, breathe. You are in one of the liveliest parts of the Marais, but inside, everything is calm.

5. Saint-Merri Church

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

76 rue de la Verrerie, 4th arrondissement

Duration: 30 minutes – Free
Information & visits

Set against a somewhat dreary concrete wall, this small 16th-century Gothic church almost goes unnoticed. But once inside, it is another world. Its soaring vaults, slender columns, colorful central stained-glass window, and somewhat shadowy corners create a strange, intimate atmosphere.
Come closer to the façade: strange faces, intricate floral motifs, and even what looks like a carved salamander... so many symbols that some associate with alchemy and Hermeticism. It is the perfect place to sit for a few moments, breathe, and let your intuition speak.

6. The Musée de Cluny – Baths of Lutetia

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

28 rue du Sommerard, 5th arrondissement

Duration: 1 hour – Admission: €12
Information & visits

The setting changes a little, but we stay with symbols. The Musée de Cluny is a plunge into medieval Paris. It is housed in an exceptional building: a former Gothic townhouse built against the remains of ancient Roman baths, which you can visit inside. The place is charged with energy, powerfully so.
The collections on display are fascinating: religious statues, ritual objects, reliquaries, and works evoking the human condition, the seasons, and the elements (particularly the Pilier des Nautes, depicting Cernunnos, among others). The Dame à la Licorne, with its six monumental tapestries, will leave you speechless. Each panel illustrates one of the senses… but behind this conventional reading, you can sense far subtler symbolic layers. If you are drawn to ancient art, prepare to be deeply moved.

7. A Well-Deserved Snack: A Break Surrounded by Books

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

Café Livres

10 rue Saint-Martin - Around €7 per person

After so many images, symbols, and places steeped in history, it is time for a gentle break. This café is simple, welcoming, and filled with books. The perfect place to sit with a cup of tea and a slice of moist cake. The atmosphere is calm, hushed, and conducive to daydreaming. You will find students, quiet readers, and regulars who return for the place’s peaceful energy. Let your thoughts wander, reread your notes, or discreetly draw a tarot card… no one will judge you here.

8. Passage Jouffroy

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

Passage Jouffroy, 9th arrondissement

30 to 40 minutes (and longer if you enjoy strolling) - Free

This covered passageway from the 19th century is an architectural and atmospheric gem. Long and narrow, with a mosaic floor, carved wooden shopfronts, a period glass roof, and a hushed atmosphere. Take a slow stroll through it, admire the old signs, and browse the shops selling antique toys, walking sticks, and rare books.
At the back, the Musée Grévin stands with a theater-like façade: fluted columns, mirrors, colorful frescoes… The place itself is a game of illusions. And even without going inside, you will feel the power of this space, somewhere between spectacle, effigies, and doubles. A truly symbolic transition before the day’s final meal.

9. Belle Époque Dinner: Ending on a High Note

The Occult and Alchemical Paris in 1 Day

Bouillon Chartier

7 rue du Faubourg Montmartre - Around €20 per person

Welcome to old Paris. This grand brasserie, with its high molded ceilings, immense mirrors, red leather banquettes, and period light fixtures, has remained frozen in time since 1896, at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. You settle at a table (sometimes next to strangers - that’s the tradition), look over the old-fashioned menu… and feast.
Blanquette, deviled eggs, andouillette, cream puffs… everything is simple, hearty, and remarkably satisfying. The service is quick, and the staff always wear white coats. You will end this day on a high note, with a full stomach and stars in your eyes.

10. And what about the budget?

If you follow the entire proposed route, budget approximately €69 per person for the full day. This includes the two paid visits (the climb up Saint-Jacques Tower and admission to the Musée de Cluny), a vegetarian lunch at Le Potager du Marais, an afternoon snack at Café Livres, and a generous dinner at Bouillon Chartier. It is a very reasonable budget for such a rich experience, combining magical places, Parisian atmosphere, and good food. Of course, if you skip one or two stops, or if your tarot tells you to buy an old grimoire at a bookshop, the price may shift slightly… but overall, plan on around sixty euros to experience Paris differently, with stars in your eyes.

11. One last piece of advice

Before heading home, take the time to close out this day as you would close a ritual. Not hurriedly, but with intention. Find a discreet bench, a quiet park, or remain standing, your heart a little more open than when you arrived.

Think back to the three key places on this walk:
– Nicolas Flamel's House
– Saint-Jacques Tower
– Saint-Merri Church

These three points form a true triangle on the map of Paris, almost equilateral. And if you stand inside this space, in the heart of the Marais, you enter what could be called an energy zone (especially since Paris is crossed by several ley lines).

It is here, inside this triangle, that you can take a few minutes to ask your pendulum a question, draw a card, or make a wish. What matters is your presence, your intention, and the inner echo you feel.

Choose a quiet spot between Rue de Montmorency, the square by the tower, and the streets around Saint-Merri. Close your eyes. Breathe. And set down whatever you need to set down. This is a moment for you, in a Paris that may be listening to you a little more than usual. When you open your eyes again, you will carry this triangle with you.
