IN THE SUMMARY...
1. What is its origin? |
The cascarilla, also called egg powder, is a ritual substance used to protect, purify, and bless in many Afro-Caribbean spiritual traditions, notably in Santería, Haitian Vodou, and certain branches of hoodoo. It is entirely natural, simple in appearance, but powerful in function: it creates a barrier between oneself and disruptive energies.
It does not burn, nor dissolve. It traces, it defines boundaries, it isolates the sacred from the rest.
1. What is its origin?
Cascarilla takes its name from the Spanish cáscara, meaning “shell.” It is made from white eggshells carefully washed, dried, then ground into a very fine powder. In some traditions, the eggs are consecrated from the start, collected with care, and processed in calm.
This powder is then pressed into small discs (resembling white chalks) or kept as loose powder, ready to use.
It is not “blessed” artificially. It carries within it a neutral and protective vibration, linked to the mineral purity of limestone and the symbolism of the egg: birth, life, barrier, shell.
2. Why is it so widely used?
Cascarilla is known to create an invisible boundary, stop the spread of negative charges, and protect both bodies and places. It is gentle but firm. It does not attack. It neutralizes.
It can be applied to the skin, scattered on the ground, traced on objects, or diluted in a ritual bath. It does not leave a strong mark, but its effect is felt almost immediately: calm returns, tensions ease, the space closes.
It is not a talisman to wear. It is a powder to use with intention, consciously.
3. And homemade preparation?
You can make your own cascarilla, provided it is done in a calm and clean environment. Collect white eggshells, wash them with clear water, let them air dry, then grind them very finely using a mortar. Some add a prayer or an inner phrase while grinding.
You get a white, dry, very fine powder, ready to use. It is stored in a closed jar away from moisture.
Cascarilla is not an ancient object to admire. It is a simple, accessible, and immediate tool, which is used whenever you want to set a healthy boundary in the invisible.
