IN THE SUMMARY...
1. Why use them? |
In hoodoo, candles are not just used to light an altar or create an atmosphere. They are instruments of direct action, charged with intention, symbols, prayers, and correspondences. Lighting a candle in this context means setting a will in motion, channeling energy, and supporting work over time.
A candle in hoodoo does not decorate. It works.
1. Why use them?
The candle is a tool of transmission. Its flame carries the request. Its color guides the intention. Its oil charges the body of the message, and its burning transforms the visible into invisible action. Each candle acts as a link between your desire and the world that can respond to it.
They are used for love, justice, health, money, protection, peace, cutting ties, or to support a mojo, a request, a spiritual bath, or a liberation work.
Lighting a candle in this context means marking the beginning of a magical process.
2. How to prepare it?
You choose a candle color suited to your goal (red for love or strength, green for money or growth, white for peace or clarity, black for cutting ties or defense, yellow for success or persuasion, etc.).
Before using it, you purify it, either with a personal prayer, by passing it through incense, or by rubbing it with a cloth. Then, you dress it with a conditioned oil: rub it from the wick to the base if you want to attract, and from the base to the wick if you want to repel.
You can then coat it with magical powder, surround it with plants, inscribe a name, a cross, or a request with a needle or a nail. The candle becomes a charged body, ready to carry the intention until the end of its burning.
This work is not automatic. It is an act of agreement.
3. What to do once lit?
You place it in a stable spot, on a suitable holder. You stay with it for a few minutes, in silence or whispering your request. You can light it every day for several days, or let it burn all at once, depending on the duration of the work.
When the flame goes out, you observe the remains: the wax, the direction of the flame, the speed of burning can give clues about the effectiveness of the work.
A candle in hoodoo is not decoration. It is a flame of will. And in this clear light, the invisible hears what you truly want.
