Can palo santo be used with other tools?

IN THIS SUMMARY...

1. With incense
2. With a candle
3. With stones or ritual objects

palo santo fits perfectly into a ritual alongside other spiritual or magical tools. It does not dominate. It supports. It creates a clear foundation, a neutral space, a stable presence that allows the other elements to find their place. It can be used in addition to a resin incense, a charged candle, a crystal, a talisman, or in a simpler approach, to support a moment of intention.

It does not compete with other tools. It prepares the stage, clears interferences, and grounds the action.

1. With incense

You can absolutely use palo santo before or after incense. It acts as a pre-cleansing, to open the way, or as a closing, to seal a work. It pairs well with sacred incenses like frankincense, benzoin, myrrh, or copal.

You don’t burn them at the same time, as the smoke could become too dense or unpleasant. You alternate: a moment for palo santo, a moment for the incense. This allows listening to the message of each scent.

2. With a candle

Palo santo can be used just before lighting a ritual candle. It purifies the space, calms the mind, refocuses attention. It acts as an energetic preamble, a way of saying: “I am here, ready.” You can also pass the smoke around the candle itself before lighting it, to clarify its radiance.

The candle will then extend the momentum over time, where the smoke opened the initial space.

3. With stones or ritual objects

You can pass palo santo smoke around a crystal, a pendulum, tarot cards, a talisman, or any ritual object. It’s not enough to just place it nearby: the gesture matters. You hold the object in one hand, slowly circle the wood, or place the object above the smoke cloud, in silence. It’s a gentle but effective cleansing, without aggression.

Palo santo respects materials. It does not damage, burn, or leave greasy ash.

Using palo santo with other tools creates a smooth collaboration. Each thing keeps its place. And in this invisible dialogue, intention finds its balance.
