How to Create an Altar for Litha?

How to Create an Altar for Litha?

IN THIS SUMMARY...

1. Where to set up the altar?
2. What elements to include?
3. What to do in front of the altar?

A Litha altar doesn’t need to be heavy or solemn. It should radiate, reflect the fullness of light, the strength of the growing earth, and the solar energy at its peak. It’s not a seasonal decoration, it’s a living space, a point of contact between you, the visible world, and the forces of the natural cycle.

Creating an altar for Litha means offering a space to the light.

1. Where to set up the altar?

Choose a bright spot, near a window or even outside if possible. If that’s not possible, place a golden candle or a lamp pointed at it to remind of the sun’s presence. Litha is a celebration of presence, not withdrawal.

The space can be small. What matters is the clarity, coherence, and energy you put into it.

2. What elements to include?

Place a yellow, golden, or red candle, in the center or elevated. It’s the solstice flame, symbol of vital fire. You can add a flower crown, a bouquet of solar plants like lavender, rosemary, basil, or St. John’s wort.

Add a sun stone such as citrine, amber, garnet, tiger’s eye, or pyrite. You can also place a coin or golden jewelry to evoke the earth’s wealth at its zenith.

A bowl of clear water, a small dish of salt, and some grains of wheat or rice can balance the whole.

If you want to go further, place a small round mirror or an image of the sun. This intensifies the effect of reflection and radiance.

3. What to do in front of the altar?

You can sit for a few minutes each day between sunrise and sunset. Observe, breathe, give thanks. You can place a written wish, a commitment for the summer, an intention related to growth, joy, strength.

The altar is a place of recentring. It allows you to stay aligned with solar energy, even in the heart of daily life.

You can light the candle at dawn and let it burn during a moment of silence, music, or dance.

A Litha altar is not fixed. It evolves with you. And in every flame placed, the sun finds a space to keep shining in your home.
