Using a Ouija Board

Create the Right Conditions

Using a Ouija board requires neither special talent nor advanced knowledge, but a specific mindset: calmness, respect, and clear intention. Before starting, it is essential to choose a peaceful place, free from distracting noise or tension in the air. The lighting can be dimmed, a candle lit if it helps set the mood. What matters is not the aesthetics, but the attention you give to the moment. The board is not just a wooden or cardboard object; it acts as a medium, a bridge, a contact support between what is seen and what is unseen.

Enter into the Dialogue

Place the board flat in front of you. If you are several, sit in a circle around it. If you are alone, make sure to stay grounded, focused, and relaxed. Place the planchette in the center of the board. Gently rest your fingers on it, without pressing, simply to create a light connection. It’s not about physical strength, but mental presence. Breathe. Stay attentive. Before asking a question, you can mark an opening: a word, a phrase, a brief moment of silence. Some choose to protect themselves with a prayer, a symbolic circle, or a clear thought. It doesn’t need to be complicated or formalized, just sincere. Then, speak aloud or internally. Address the spirit you wish to contact, or leave the door open to a benevolent entity. The key is to ask clear, simple questions and stay focused on what you feel. The planchette may remain still at first. Sometimes it moves very slowly. Other times, it seems to be energized by a particular force. Let whatever comes come, without forcing or rushing. Note the letters, words, and any answers. Avoid interrupting or laughing nervously. Even if nothing happens, take it as an experience in itself.

Close with Respect

When you feel the time has come to finish, offer a thank you, even if you perceived nothing. Gently move the planchette toward “goodbye,” wait for it to stop, then remove your hands. Do not leave the table abruptly. Take a few minutes to recentre yourself, breathe, and return to yourself. This type of session, even if silent, can stir invisible things. Store the board in a quiet place, away from disturbance. Do not leave it open or placed without intention. It deserves a certain respect, like any tool used to inquire into what goes beyond the ordinary.
