John Michael Greer

John Michael Greer, born in 1962 in Bremerton, Washington, is an American writer and neo-druid known for his work on ecology, ecological economics, appropriate technology, peak oil, societal collapse, ecocentrism, pantheism, and occultism.

After being initiated into Freemasonry and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Greer turned to druidry by joining the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids in 1995, following about twenty years of involvement in occult Hermetic spirituality. He served as Grand Archdruid of the Ancient Order of Druids in America (AODA) from 2003 to 2015.

A prolific author, he has written more than forty books covering topics such as occultism, spirituality, and the future of industrial society.

Among his notable works are The New Encyclopedia of the Occult and The Druidry Handbook, the latter serving as the main manual for the AODA.

Greer is also known for his analyses of the decline of industrial civilization, notably through his blog The Archdruid Report (2006-2017) and his current blog "Ecosophia".

There he explores themes related to peak oil, economics, history, and philosophy, offering a unique perspective on contemporary challenges.
