The story of Saint Expédit is based on several legends. The most widespread one tells that he was a Roman soldier in Armenia who converted to Christianity and decided to dedicate himself to this new faith. However, when the devil, disguised as a crow, appeared to him to persuade him to postpone his conversion until the next day, Expédit crushed the bird under his foot while shouting Hodie! ("today," in Latin), thus affirming his immediate commitment to Christ. He is said to have been martyred the next day, hence his association with haste and urgency.
Saint Expédit is often depicted wearing Roman legionary attire, holding a cross inscribed with Hodie while crushing a crow bearing the word Cras ("tomorrow," in Latin), symbolizing his rejection of procrastination and the influence of evil.
