Claude Planson

Claude Planson is a French author recognized for his work on Haitian Vodou. Husband of mambo Mathilda Beauvoir, a respected Vodou priestess, he was initiated within this tradition, earning the title of Kanzo. In 1999, he published a reference work on the subject, offering an accessible and respectful perspective on this spiritual practice. This book, reissued in 2021, explores the rituals, symbols, and ceremonies of Vodou, highlighting elements such as the vévés—sacred drawings used to invoke spirits. Claude Planson also addresses possession phenomena and their therapeutic role in Vodou culture. His work contributes to a better understanding of this tradition, often misunderstood or misinterpreted in the West.
