This work offers a rich and well-documented exploration of nature spirits from ancient traditions, long relegated to the background of stories. It invites the reader to rediscover figures such as nymphs, faes, genies, brownies, or elves, giving them a clear and structured place. The book relies on accessible and precise texts, allowing a serious and coherent approach to this universe, without detours or excessive simplification.

Names, uses, and roles in ancient traditions

The work reveals the names, uses, and functions attributed to these spirits in ancient stories and traditions. Each figure is placed back in its cultural and symbolic context, which helps to understand how these presences were perceived and integrated into the collective imagination. The texts provide solid reference points to grasp their role, their interactions with the human world, and the place they occupied in beliefs and stories of the past.

A scholarly work supported by text and image

Richard Ely and Frédérique Devos combine their knowledge to bring these ancient figures back to life through work that is both rigorous and lively. Richard Ely, whose real name is Christophe Richard Ely Van De Ponseele, is a Belgian writer and ethnobotanist born on March 20, 1974, in Ghent. He grew up in Ellezelles, a village in the Pays des Collines region of Belgium, known for its folklore related to witchcraft. This childhood deeply influenced him, awakening a passion for folklore and the fantastic.

After studying humanities and social sciences at the Catholic University of Louvain, he pursued research on vampires, witches, fairies, and elves. He also earned a degree in applied ethnobotany from the University of Lille II, focusing his research on the use of medicinal plants, rituals, beliefs, and superstitions.

@&aRichard Ely is the former editor-in-chief of Khimaira magazine and the creator of the blog "Peuple Féerique," which he still runs. He is also the main organizer of the "Trolls & Legends" festival in Mons, Belgium.

As an author, he has published several works exploring the world of fairies and nature spirits, including The Great Book of Nature Spirits and The Great Book of House Spirits.

Here, we don’t judge.

No matter where you come from, what you believe in, or what you’re looking for: you belong here. You can be a beginner, curious, a casual practitioner, or a daily witch. What matters is sincere intention.

We believe in all forms of magic.

High magic and its rigorous rituals deserve as much respect as spells passed down in the countryside. We read grimoires, respect rites, listen to old stories. Everything practiced with faith deserves serious and curious attention.

We welcome all traditions.

We don’t put one path above another. We talk hoodoo, kabbalah, Christian prayers, elemental magic, folk rituals, Celtic symbols. What matters is respect. Not the label.

We work cleanly.

Each package is carefully prepared by us, here in France. Before shipping, it is purified so it arrives at your home cleansed and positively charged. We strive to use recyclable packaging and reduce our impact as much as possible.

We stay available.

Customer service is us. Not an AI, not a robot, not a call center. If you have a question, a doubt, a problem, you reach us—the same people who select the products, write the descriptions, and prepare the packages.

We stay human-sized.

We are a small passionate team with big ambitions, hands in the herbs, books, and boxes. And we want to keep it that way.

You speak about it best.
