General presentation of Saint Jean-Marie Vianney

Saint Jean-Marie Vianney, also known as the Curé of Ars, was born in 1786 in Dardilly, near Lyon, France. He is considered the patron saint of parish priests and priests worldwide. After a difficult religious education, he became a priest and was appointed parish priest in the small village of Ars in 1818. For 41 years, he devoted himself entirely to his ministry, preaching, hearing confessions, and guiding thousands of pilgrims who came from all over France to hear him. His holiness is recognized by his ability to read souls and reconcile sinners with God. He died in 1859 and was canonized in 1925. In 1929, he was declared patron of all parish priests by Pope Pius XI.
