As you may know, behind Aeternum is a small company based in Brittany (in the south of Finistère to be precise). And it is well known that this territory lives to the rhythm of legends, myths, and more or less known magical practices (Brocéliande, Merlin, the Fairy Viviane, the Alignments, and many others). Thus, to highlight our beautiful region, we will regularly publish little-known legends from Breton history.
Today, I am not going to talk to you about a legend strictly speaking, but about intersigns. These premonitions that may cross our path are not random but signs announcing events, even... death. For some, they appear just before the arrival of Ankou.

So here is a non-exhaustive list of these signs and their meanings.
-
The crowing of a rooster at midnight: this can announce an imminent death in the village or family.
-
A sudden shiver: Ankou has just brushed past you without taking you away.
-
The sound of footsteps behind you without seeing anyone: a sign of bad omen, often interpreted as the announcement of a tragedy or misfortune.
-
A crow near the house: often interpreted as a bad omen, possibly indicating death or great sadness to come.
-
A holed stone on your path: a good luck charm, offering protection against curses and evil spirits.
-
The flight of birds: the direction and formation of bird flights can be interpreted as predictive signs concerning the weather or other upcoming events.
-
The encounter with a hare: seeing a hare cross your path can be considered a sign of bad luck, especially in business or ongoing projects.
-
The encounter with a weasel: death will come for you within the year.
-
The words of the waves: if the waves seem to whisper or speak, this can be interpreted as messages from spirits or ancestors.
-
Saint Elmo's light: seeing these small blue flames appear on the masts of ships was considered a good omen for sailors, indicating protection against the storm.
-
The encounter with a woman in black: in some stories, crossing paths with a woman dressed entirely in black can be a warning sign of bad news.
-
Coffin boards clatter in the carpenter's workshop: a death will occur during the following night.
It is also said that when two people travel together and one has the ability to see the signs, they only need to place their hand on their travel companion's hand to pass on this ability.
So, be observant from now on...
