As you may know, behind Aeternum is a small business based in Brittany (specifically in the south of Finistère). It is well known that this region lives to the rhythm of legends, myths, and magical practices, some more or less known (Brocéliande, Merlin, the Fairy Viviane, the Alignments, and many others). Thus, to highlight our beautiful region, we will regularly publish little-known legends from Breton history.
In the mysterious lands of Côtes-d’Armor, Mount Croquelien rises majestically, a granite chaos born in the primary era, hundreds of millions of years ago. Over the millennia, this place has been shaped by winds and rains, giving rise to a landscape where nature seems to have engaged in an eternal dance between the vegetal and the mineral. But this site is also the cradle of an ancient legend, that of the Margot fairies.

The Margot fairies, all sisters, were born on this mount, where granite slabs form vast natural tracks. It is on these stones that the Margot, fairies as mischievous as they are discreet, gathered on full moon nights to dance under the stars. These creatures, said to possess unmatched beauty, had a charm capable of silencing birds and stopping the wind, just to better observe them.
The Margot all belonged to the same fairy dynasty, known for their ability to blend into the landscape. It was said they had the power to disappear at will, leaving behind only the sweet scent of wildflowers. They were the guardians of Mount Croquelien, watching over its secrets and treasures, including a famous barrel of gold, buried beneath one of the three adjacent rocks, known as the "Margot’s Wallet."

But this treasure was not meant for humans. In fact, they did not like humans at all, which is why they preferred to torment them. According to the legend, anyone who tried to seize it would be condemned to a terrible fate: turned to stone, they would become part of the granite chaos, eternally frozen, for daring to challenge the fairies. This curse has deterred many curious people and gold seekers, thus preserving the mystery of Mount Croquelien.
Walking the trails of the mount, one can still discover traces left by the Margot fairies today. Two holly trees that have taken root between granite blocks create a natural arch, like a door to another world. Further on, a bathtub carved into the stone, called "Margot’s bathtub," bears witness to the presence of the fairies, as does a granite chair where, it is said, the oldest Margot used to sit to watch over the mount.
The inhabitants of Gouray-Le Mené claim to know the location of the treasure. But this information is as confidential as the treasure itself.
If you pass by, stay in your place to avoid becoming a cold, motionless rock...
