Want to discover a secret Paris, full of symbols and strange stories? This tour is for you. We’ll take you on a day-long walking journey through the Marais and its surroundings, searching for traces left by alchemists, hermeticists, and occult enthusiasts. Get ready to look up, observe the stones, shiver a little... and above all, to see Paris differently.

Recommended start: 9:30 AM
Have a good breakfast, put on sturdy shoes, and leave behind postcard Paris. What awaits you today is a veiled, somewhat forgotten Paris that will whisper secrets at every street corner.

1. The House of Nicolas Flamel

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

51 Montmorency Street, 3rd arrondissement
Free

We start strong. At first glance, this stone house doesn’t seem different from other old buildings in the Marais. Yet, you are standing before the oldest house in Paris still standing, built in 1407. Three stories tall, it stands out with its rough-hewn stone facade, narrow windows, and especially its inscriptions carved in Old French on the door lintel. It reads a prayer dedicated to God, but some also see an alchemical coded message. No surprise, it was home to the famous alchemist Nicolas Flamel.
The house is now occupied by a restaurant, but just looking at it feels like connecting with a forgotten chapter of Parisian magic.

2. The Saint-Jacques Tower

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

Square of the Saint-Jacques Tower, 4th arrondissement

Duration: 45 minutes – Admission: €12
Information & visits

It stands alone, in the middle of a square, like something out of a gothic dream. This 52-meter tower was once the bell tower of the Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie church, destroyed during the Revolution. But it’s not just a religious relic: it features elements related to sacred geometry and alchemy. Look at the gargoyles, the carved reliefs... it’s more than just decoration. Once a landmark for pilgrims on the Way of St. James, it later became a haven for alchemists and master builders. And if you book your spot in time, you can climb the spiral staircase to the top for a breathtaking panoramic view of Paris. The kind of ascent that gives both vertigo and inner clarity.

3. The L’Inconnu Bookstore

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

117 rue de la Verrerie, 4th arrondissement

Free (unless you make some purchases...)

You enter here like into a temple. The shelves are overflowing with grimoires, tarot cards, pendulums, vials, ritual candles. The smell of old paper mixes with incense. If you love books that speak to your gut and intuition, you’re in the right place. Sometimes, a book jumps into your hands as if it was waiting for you. Don’t hesitate to chat with the booksellers; they are passionate, discreet, and always ready to offer advice or a little-known reference.

4. Lunch break: recharge body and mind

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

Le Potager du Marais

24 rue Rambuteau – About €18 per person

After this dive into Parisian esotericism, it’s time for a well-deserved plant-based break. Le Potager du Marais is a small, unpretentious but charming restaurant. Here, everything is organic, vegetarian, and carefully prepared. Their famous vegan onion soup is a blessing. The dishes are simple but comforting, and the warm atmosphere lets you reflect on the morning’s discoveries. Take your time, savor, breathe. You’re in one of the liveliest corners of the Marais, but inside, everything is calm.

5. Saint-Merri Church

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

76 rue de la Verrerie, 4th arrondissement

Duration: 30 minutes – Free
Information & visits

Attached to a somewhat dull concrete wall, this small 16th-century Gothic church almost goes unnoticed. But once inside, it’s another world. Its soaring vaults, slender columns, colorful central stained glass, and slightly dark corners create a strange and intimate atmosphere.
Approach the facade: strange faces, complex floral patterns, and even what looks like a sculpted salamander... all symbols that some associate with alchemy and hermeticism. It’s a perfect place to sit for a few moments, breathe, and let your intuition speak.

6. The Cluny Museum – Lutetia Baths

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

28 rue du Sommerard, 5th arrondissement

Duration: 1 hour – Entry: €12
Information & visits

Let's change the scenery a bit, but stay with the symbols. The Cluny Museum is a dive into medieval Paris. It is housed in an exceptional building: a former Gothic mansion attached to the remains of ancient Roman baths, which you can visit inside. The place is charged, powerfully so.
The displayed collections are fascinating: religious statues, ritual objects, reliquaries, but also works evoking the human condition, the seasons, the elements (notably the Pilier des Nautes illustrating Cernunnos, among others). The Lady with the Unicorn, with its six monumental tapestries, leaves you speechless. Each panel illustrates a sense… but behind this classic reading, you sense much subtler symbolic layers. If you are sensitive to ancient art, prepare to be deeply moved.

7. A well-deserved snack: a break surrounded by books

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

Le Café Livres

10 rue Saint-Martin – About €7 per person

After so many images, symbols, and inhabited places, it’s time for a gentle break. This café is simple, warm, and filled with books. The perfect spot to sit with a cup of tea and a slice of moist cake. The atmosphere is calm, cozy, and conducive to daydreaming. You’ll meet students, quiet readers, regulars who come back for the peaceful energy of the place. Let your thoughts wander, reread your notes, or quietly draw a tarot card… no one will judge you here.

8. Passage Jouffroy

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

Passage Jouffroy, 9th arrondissement

30 to 40 minutes (and more if you like to wander) – Free

This 19th-century covered passage is a gem of architecture and atmosphere. Long and narrow, with a mosaic floor, carved wooden shop windows, a period glass roof, and a cozy ambiance. You stroll slowly, look at the old signs, the shops selling antique toys, canes, and rare books.
At the back, the Grévin Museum stands with a facade like a theater: fluted columns, mirrors, colorful frescoes… The place itself is a play of illusions. Even without entering, you will feel the power of this space, between spectacle, effigies, and doubles. A true symbolic transition before the last meal of the day.

9. Belle Époque Dinner: finishing in style

Occult and alchemical Paris in 1 day

Bouillon Chartier

7 rue du Faubourg Montmartre – About €20 per person

Welcome to old Paris. This large brasserie with high molded ceilings, huge mirrors, red leather benches, and period lighting has remained frozen in time since 1896 during the height of Art Nouveau. You sit at a table (sometimes next to strangers, it’s tradition), look at the menu written in the old style… and enjoy a delicious meal.
Blanquette, egg mayo, andouillette, whipped cream cabbage… everything is simple, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. The service is quick, and the staff always wear white coats. You will end this day beautifully, with a full belly and eyes full of stars.

10. And what about the budget?

If you follow the entire proposed route, expect to spend about €69 per person for the full day. This includes the two paid visits (climbing the Saint-Jacques Tower and entry to the Cluny Museum), a vegetarian lunch at Potager du Marais, a snack break at Café Livres, and a generous dinner at Bouillon Chartier. It’s a very reasonable budget for such a rich experience, between magical places, Parisian atmosphere, and good plates. Obviously, if you skip one or two steps, or if your tarot tells you to buy an old grimoire at a bookstore, the price might shift slightly… but overall, plan for around sixty euros to experience Paris differently, with stars in your eyes.

11. One last piece of advice

Before going home, take the time to close this day as you would close a ritual. Not in a rush, but with intention. Find a quiet bench, a peaceful park, or stay standing, your heart a little more open than when you arrived.

Think back to the three key places of this walk:
– The House of Nicolas Flamel
– The Saint-Jacques Tower
– And the Saint-Merri Church

These three points form a true triangle on the map of Paris, almost equilateral. And if you stand inside this space, in the heart of the Marais, you enter what could be called an energy zone (especially since Paris is crossed by several ley lines).

It is there, inside this triangle, that you can take a few minutes to ask a question to your pendulum, draw a card, or make a wish. What matters is presence, intention, and the inner echo you feel.

Choose a quiet spot between Montmorency Street, the Tower Square, and the streets around Saint-Merri. Close your eyes. Breathe. And place what you need to place. This is a moment for you, in a Paris that might be listening to you a little more than usual. When you open your eyes again, you will carry this triangle with you.
