As you may know, behind Aeternum is a small company based in Brittany (in the south of Finistère to be precise). And it is well known that this territory lives to the rhythm of legends, myths, and magical practices more or less known (Brocéliande, Merlin, the Fairy Viviane, the Alignments, and many others). Thus, to highlight our beautiful region, we will regularly publish little-known legends from Breton history.
Let’s discover together the legend of the dragon of Batz Island, located at the very north of Finistère...

On this island, off the coast of Brittany, once lived a fearsome dragon. This monster, with its shimmering scales and piercing eyes, spread terror among the island's inhabitants. It ravaged the crops, devoured the livestock, and the villagers lived in constant fear of its attacks.
The prayers of the inhabitants, addressed to the gods and saints, seemed to go unanswered. Despair was taking hold of hearts and the situation was becoming increasingly unbearable. One day, an elder of the village remembered the stories of Saint Pol Aurélien, a monk known for his wisdom and divine powers. The inhabitants then decided to seek his help.

Saint Pol Aurélien, moved by their distress, agreed to come to the island. Upon his arrival, he realized the extent of the damage caused by the dragon. He spent several days praying and meditating, seeking a solution to free the island from this scourge without shedding blood.
One morning, guided by a divine vision, Saint Pol Aurélien headed to the cave where the dragon was hiding. With unwavering faith and serene determination, he faced the monster. To everyone's surprise, the dragon, instead of attacking, calmed at the sight of the holy man. Saint Pol Aurélien approached gently, chanting prayers and sacred incantations. The dragon, enchanted by the monk's words, allowed itself to be tamed.

With great patience and infinite kindness, Saint Pol Aurélien managed to convince the dragon to leave the island. He guided the creature out of the cave, through the hills and devastated fields, to the sea. The villagers, amazed and grateful, watched this miraculous scene unfold before their eyes.
Arriving on the shore, Saint Pol Aurélien said farewell to the dragon and blessed it one last time. The dragon dove into the waters and disappeared over the horizon, taking with it the threat that weighed on the island.

Since that day, Batz Island regained peace and prosperity. As a sign of gratitude, the inhabitants built a chapel in honor of Saint Pol Aurélien, now in ruins, where the Sainte Anne chapel now stands.
