In the shadow of famous alchemy lies spagyrics, a discipline offering a perspective on plants and their transformative power. More than a method of preparing remedies, it proposes a true philosophy where nature and human beings evolve in harmony. Introduction.

1. Paracelsus and spagyrics

Spagyrics is part of an ancient tradition that blends the knowledge of alchemy and medicine. Its name, derived from the Greek words spao and ageiro, expresses a fundamental principle: to extract the essential elements of a plant, purify them, and reunite them to create a harmonious whole.

In the 16th century, Paracelsus played a decisive role in formalizing spagyrics. This physician and philosopher proposed an innovative vision of medicine, where treatments should not only target physical symptoms but also address the spirit and vital energy of the individual. Paracelsus established that each plant has a kind of symbolic "signature" to heal certain ailments. This idea revolutionized the use of medicinal plants by linking them to a more intuitive and holistic understanding.

Despite its significant development during the Renaissance, spagyrics experienced a decline in the 17th century with the rise of modern sciences, which favored more analytical and mechanical approaches. However, it did not disappear entirely and remained practiced confidentially. It was only in the 20th century that it regained interest, driven by a revival of "alternative" medicines and a search for more natural and symbolic practices.

2. The fundamental principles of spagyrics

2.1. The three alchemical principles

At the heart of spagyrics are the three fundamental principles inherited from alchemy: Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury. These principles represent complementary aspects of the reality of plants, but also of living beings as a whole:

  • Salt embodies the material and tangible structure, what remains fixed and stable, like the skeleton or physical substance of the plant.

  • Sulfur symbolizes the essence or soul, that is, what gives the plant its active properties and specific qualities.

  • Mercury represents the vital energy or spirit, which enables movement, communication, and transformation.

These three principles are concretely expressed in spagyric preparations. Salt corresponds to the mineral residues obtained after calcination of the plant parts. Sulfur is manifested through essential oils and active compounds. As for Mercury, it is found in distilled alcohol, a product of fermentation. By reuniting these three elements after purifying them, spagyrics seeks to reconstruct a dynamic and balanced unity capable of acting on different levels of the human being.

2.2. Separation and reunification process

The spagyric approach relies on a methodical process where each step aims to extract, purify, and reassemble the essential components of the plant. It all starts with separation: the different parts of the plant are isolated to extract their specific principles. This step is followed by a purification phase, where elements are refined to eliminate impurities and reveal their true potential. Finally, these purified elements are reunited to form a holistic remedy that reflects the quintessence of the plant.

Here, harmony is built from the interaction of differences. Each element contributes its own part, but it is their recombination that allows obtaining a complete remedy, acting in a balanced way on the physical, emotional, and energetic levels. This approach is thus by nature very different from classical phytotherapy methods.

2.3. Relationship with alchemy and astrology

Spagyrics is not limited to a material analysis of plants. It fits into a holistic vision where every living being, every substance, and every process is influenced by the cycles of the universe. In spagyrics, plants are linked to celestial bodies, and their harvesting as well as their preparation follow precise rhythms dictated by the positions of the planets and lunar phases.

This relationship between plants and astrology is based on the concept of "signatures," where each plant is associated with a celestial body or constellation according to its characteristics. These correspondences help choose the right moments to work with plants, thus maximizing their energetic potential.

Astrology not only plays a role in choosing plants but also in their preparation. Lunar phases influence the type of elixir produced, while planetary configurations can guide the ideal time to start or complete a spagyric process.

3. Plant and celestial body associations

Here are some examples illustrating these associations:

Aries Mars Spicy, stimulating Cayenne pepper, mint
Taurus Venus Soothing Valerian, lavender
Gemini Mercury Promote mental clarity Anise, fennel
Cancer Moon Nourishing, protective Chamomile, aloe
Leo Sun Vitalizing Sunflower, calendula
Virgo Mercury Digestive, purifying Passionflower, hawthorn
Libra Venus Harmonizing Rose, sage
Scorpio Pluto, Mars Regenerating, detoxifying Nettle, milk thistle
Sagittarius Jupiter Expansive, tonic Sage, savory
Capricorn Saturn Structuring, remineralizing Horsetail, ivy
Aquarius Uranus, Saturn Innovative, stimulating Ginkgo biloba, lemongrass
Pisces Neptune, Jupiter Intuitive, relaxing Lavender, lotus

4. Types of Spagyric Remedies

Spagyric remedies come in different forms, each addressing specific needs and using alchemical processes to maximize the therapeutic properties of plants. Among these preparations, tinctures, elixirs, and spagyric essences hold a central place.

4.1. Spagyric Tinctures

Spagyric tinctures result from a rigorous process that combines fermentation, distillation, and calcination of plants. This method allows the extraction, purification, and reunion of the three fundamental principles of spagyrics: the body, soul, and spirit of the plant. These concentrated preparations in an alcoholic base retain the full active properties of the plants. They are particularly useful in treating digestive disorders, such as improving digestion or relieving gastrointestinal discomfort, and prove effective in supporting hormonal balance, especially during menopause or in reproductive health. Furthermore, they strengthen immune defenses and can be used preventively to maintain good general health. Spagyric tinctures are generally administered in liquid form, diluted in water, and their dosage is adapted according to the user's needs.

4.2. Spagyric Elixirs

Spagyric elixirs represent a more sophisticated and complex form of remedy. They combine active principles, essential oils, and purified mineral salts, obtained through advanced alchemical processes. These elixirs are designed to act simultaneously on the physical body, emotions, and vital energy, providing overall support to the individual. They are especially valued for their ability to soothe stress states, restore emotional balance, and revitalize the body during periods of fatigue or weakness. Additionally, some elixirs are used to facilitate body detoxification by supporting the emunctory organs in their role of toxin elimination. They are administered orally, diluted in water, and their use requires a personalized approach, often guided by a specialized practitioner.

4.3. Spagyric Essences

Spagyric essences, for their part, focus more on the energetic and vibrational aspect of plants. Their preparation includes steps to capture the subtle forces of the plants, often in harmony with lunar and solar cycles, to amplify their effectiveness. These essences are particularly suited to addressing emotional or spiritual imbalances. They help overcome states of sadness or anxiety while promoting a sense of inner harmony. At the same time, they play an important role in meditative practices and spiritual development by facilitating mental clarity and openness to higher dimensions of consciousness. Some essences are also used to strengthen the energetic field or "aura," providing protection against negative influences. Their application is varied: they can be taken as sublingual drops, diluted in water, or applied locally on specific energy points.

5. Spagyrics, phytotherapy, or homeopathy?

Spagyrics stands apart from both phytotherapy and homeopathy by its philosophy, preparation method, and field of action. While phytotherapy focuses on using the active principles of plants to treat specific physical symptoms, spagyrics adopts a more holistic approach. It does not limit itself to extracting the biochemical components of a plant but seeks to reveal and integrate its material, energetic, and spiritual dimensions. This process includes not only exploiting the active principles but also an alchemical transformation aimed at purifying and harmonizing the different aspects of the plant.

Compared to homeopathy, which relies on the principle of dilution and dynamization to stimulate the body's healing ability, spagyrics preserves the physical integrity of its ingredients while incorporating an energetic dimension. Where homeopathy depends on extreme dilution to the point of leaving only a vibrational trace, spagyrics maintains a tangible presence of the active principles, while adding the subtle forces captured during preparation. This gives spagyric remedies a broader scope, capable of acting simultaneously on the physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

Another difference lies in the connection of spagyrics with astrology and natural cycles. Each stage of the production follows precise rhythms, based on celestial movements. This approach goes far beyond the strictly therapeutic framework to fit into a universal vision where man, nature, and the universe are interconnected.
