And that is perfectly normal. When you light a candle with a clear intention, or prepare a powder, a bath, or a magical jar, you expect something to happen. But the truth is that rituals do not all follow the same rules. They follow other patterns, sometimes slow and sometimes surprising. To begin with, know that there is no mathematical answer, but here are a few points that may shed some light.

The lunar cycle or synchronicities?

Despite this uncertainty, there are still some general guidelines. In the classical Wiccan tradition, it is considered that a spell should bear fruit during the lunar cycle following its casting (approximately 28 days). Once this period has passed, it is generally believed that the ritual did not work. Other occult sources confirm that a successful ritual tends to manifest within 1 to 4 weeks after it is performed. These time frames are not universal laws, but they provide a general indication for traditional spells.

Another view of the timing and workings of the magical process leads us to synchronicities: those seemingly random little situations that in fact unfold as planned. In the magical arts, one may consider performing a ritual to be setting an objective in motion, with synchronicities taking care of achieving it. The time required can therefore vary considerably: the result of a ritual is the outcome of a multitude of events, whether related to the person concerned or to external variables. In this sense, no effect is instantaneous, as time must be allowed for the situation to change. It is helpful to view the ritual as an energetic signal sent toward the goal: you place your desires and intentions into the ritual, and then you must allow the event to unfold in real life.
