An angel holds a pair of scales. In Julio’s work, the figure brings together justice and purity; it accompanies the request of a person involved in a dispute or facing an unjust attack.
Read the symbolism
The scales express judgment and balance. Julio associates the angel with the attribute of the Evangelist Matthew. The verse placed around the figure asks God to rise up to defend the cause of the one who prays.
The attributed effects
The description applies the sign to disagreements, lawsuits, and unjust attacks. Julio links the hope of a favorable outcome to the presence of the right cause. The intention therefore concerns the justice of the cause, not simply winning.
Usage according to Julio
The pantacle accompanies a request concerning a specific dispute, within Julio’s framework of blessed and consecrated supports. Its religious use is based on prayer and direction of intention.
A personal reading
For a personal reading, place the two sides of a dispute on the scales. Distinguish the facts, your request, and what would be fair to each person. You can then formulate a prayer for clarity and measure.
The source and variants
The engraving is mentioned in Liturgical Prayers, p. 532. The 1908 inventory simply calls it Angel; its explanation specifies the scales and their application to justice.
