Aeternum
Mistletoe
Mistletoe, scientifically known as Viscum Album, is a plant with very ancient uses and a very special status. Druids already harvested it with a sickle in secret places to prepare the most effective potions and decoctions because it is said to cure many ailments.
Mistletoe symbolizes fertility and eternal life due to its green color even in the middle of winter. This is how the custom of kissing under the mistletoe during year-end celebrations was born.
It also has a very specific shape. It is important to know that it lives parasitically, meaning it thrives by settling in the branches of trees. In the forest, look up and if you notice leafy balls: that is mistletoe. Because of this form between sky and earth, it is considered a sacred and protective plant.
Its other names: Bois de la Sainte-Croix (Holy Cross Wood).

Sacred Plant of Celtic Traditions
Mistletoe, Viscum Album, holds a central place in ancient rites, especially among the Gaulish druids. Harvested with a golden sickle during specific ceremonies, most often on the sixth day of the moon, it underwent a meticulous ritual treatment. The gathering took place in secret locations, as mistletoe was recognized for its healing virtues, capable of treating a wide range of illnesses. This practice reflected a view of mistletoe as a plant endowed with superior powers, sanctified by its rarity and exceptional properties.
A Symbol of Fertility and Continuity
Evergreen even in the middle of winter, mistletoe embodies persistent life within apparent death. This characteristic fueled its association with fertility, marital luck, and longevity. At the end of the year, hanging a sprig of mistletoe in a home or kissing beneath its branches is part of a tradition aimed at ensuring prosperity, romantic harmony, and happiness for the months ahead. These gestures are not random but rooted in an ancient symbolism where every detail has a clear meaning and magical significance.
A Plant Between Heaven and Earth
Mistletoe is a hemiparasitic plant that draws its sustenance from the branches of trees like apple trees or lindens while maintaining its own photosynthetic activity. This botanical peculiarity strengthens its symbolism: it neither grows in the ground nor in complete autonomy, but hangs suspended between worlds. The leafy spheres it forms high in the forest are visible in winter and evoke a direct link between celestial forces and the plant kingdom. It is this unique position that makes it a plant of passage, communication, and protection, long integrated into practices aimed at preserving health and warding off evil spells.
