Papus, the pseudonym of Gérard Encausse (1865-1916), is a major figure in 19th-century French occultism. Trained as a physician, he was also a writer, lecturer, and esotericist. Passionate about spirituality, he became one of the leading promoters of Hermeticism, Theosophy, and Kabbalah in France.
A prolific author, Papus wrote numerous works, including "Methodical Treatise on Practical Magic" and "The Science of the Magi", which remain authoritative references in esotericism. He was also the founder of the Martinist Order, an initiatory organization dedicated to transmitting the mystical teachings of Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin.
Playing a key role in the revival of occult traditions in Europe, he left his mark on his era through his erudition and his commitment to making spirituality accessible to all.
