Properly using a burning charcoal is essential for an enjoyable incense experience. Here are the steps to correctly use a burning charcoal:

Prepare your space
  • Choose a well-ventilated area to burn the incense
  • Make sure you have a heat-resistant incense burner, such as one made of ceramic, stone, or metal
Handle the charcoal
  • Use tongs or a similar tool to handle the charcoal, as it will become very hot
  • Place the charcoal in your incense burner
Light the charcoal
  • Light the charcoal with a match or lighter. Self-lighting charcoals will ignite and start to crackle and spark. If your charcoal is not self-lighting, hold it over the flame until it begins to catch fire
  • Let the charcoal fully ignite and wait for a layer of white ash to form on its surface. This usually takes a few minutes
