Palo santo comes in several forms, and each has its own way of working, texture, duration, and intensity. You do not choose a format at random. You choose it according to what you want to do: purify a space, work on yourself, accompany an object, or simply create a conducive atmosphere.

The wood does not lose its vibration when it changes form. It changes rhythm, reach, and nuance.

1. Palo santo sticks

This is the best-known and most widely used form. You hold the stick in your hand, light it, let the flame go out, and use the warm smoke to purify a space, body, or object. The stick burns slowly, over several uses. It can last for weeks or even months.

It is perfect for regular cleansing, protection rituals, or for opening an energetic space before magical or spiritual work. Its smoke is expansive, comforting, and easy to control.

2. Palo santo chips

Chips allow for a more intense and occasional use. They burn faster, release denser smoke, and are often used on a small charcoal disc or in a fireproof dish. They are particularly well suited to offerings, targeted fumigations, or charging an altar.

They can also be used to make your own blends: you can combine them with myrrh, benzoin, sage, or other resins according to your intention.

Chips offer faster but also more concentrated work. You can measure them according to your preference.

3. Palo santo essential oil

The oil is extracted from mature wood, often through steam distillation. It is highly prized because the wood must age naturally for several years before offering this olfactory richness.

You can use the oil in a diffuser, diluted in another carrier oil for massage, as a drop on a sacred object, or in a ritual bath. It does not purify the air like smoke, but it affects your emotional state; it grounds, soothes, and clarifies.

The oil is well suited to inner or meditative work, or to creating a bubble of calm and centeredness.

Choosing between sticks, chips, or oil is not a question of form. It is a question of the language of the wood. And in every form, the breath of palo santo remains present.
