In some rituals, the dagyde candle is pierced with nails, pins, or needles. This act can be unsettling or disturbing. It is not a gratuitous act. This is not a theatrical scene. It is a very ancient symbolic language, passed down through several magical traditions. Each insertion marks a directed will, a precise action, a strong intention. The aim is not to “hurt,” but to concentrate energy in a particular place or on a specific aspect.

1. What does a pin represent in a ritual?

A pin is a point of tension. It draws attention to an area, an emotion, or a wound. It serves to designate, channel, and contain. Piercing a dagyde does not necessarily mean attacking. It means emphasizing, fixing, and holding in place. The act may symbolize pain to be expelled, a knot to be undone, or a force to be contained in a part of the body.

The head, heart, stomach, or limbs are areas often targeted depending on the work to be performed. Each place speaks to a different energy center.

2. Why are nails used?

The nail marks a firmer, heavier intention. It acts like energetic ink. It may be used in workings of blocking, banishing, or creating distance. It also serves to “seal” a decision, like a full stop. In some ancient rites, driving a nail into a dagyde meant preventing a return, closing off an influence, or stopping a cycle.

It may be rusty, black, new, or recycled. Its material influences the vibration of the work. The nail is more radical than the pin. It leaves no room for nuance. It asserts.

3. Is it always an aggressive act?

No. It all depends on the ritual context. Piercing a dagyde can also be an act of healing. Some traditions use pins to “extract” symbolic pain or to mark a point of release. It is not the object that is violent. What matters is the intention behind the act.

In magical self-defense workings, a pin can block an attack. In a justice working, it can point to abuse. In a healing ritual, it can materialize a wound to be released.

4. Do you need to use pins for the ritual to work?

No. It is not mandatory. It is a ritual option. You can easily perform a complete working without a nail or pin. But if you feel that your practice calls for a more incisive, more assertive act, these objects can become genuine tools.

Use them with clarity, not haste. Each insertion must have meaning and direction. You do not plant them “at random.” You perform a strong symbolic act within a conscious framework.

Using nails or pins with a dagyde is not about causing pain. It is about writing an action into the wax. And in this silent language, you can express what words cannot always say.
