Should you pray every day during a novena?

A novena, by definition, unfolds over time. Nine days. Nine nights. A path marked by a candle that keeps watch. But do you have to pray every day for it to work? Is it an obligation? A tradition? Or a question of your personal connection with what you are asking for? The answer depends on the meaning you give to your action.

1. The flame works continuously

When you light a novena candle with a clear intention, that intention is placed in the flame. It works even when you are not looking at it. Even when you sleep. The candle carries your wish through time. So you do not need to repeat the prayer every day for the request to exist. The flame does it for you.

3. What if you forget one day?

You do not lose everything. You do not “ruin” the novena. You resume. You return to the flame. You reaffirm your inner commitment. The fire does not punish you. It waits for you. This is not a test.
